How We Select Our Pairings

A successful breeding begins with understanding not only the dogs standing in front of us, but the generations that stand behind them.

At Illusion Poodles, each prospective pairing is evaluated as a whole. We study pedigree, structure, movement, temperament, health, strengths, weaknesses, and family history  before deciding whether two dogs truly complement one another.

No dog is perfect, and we do not believe breeding should be approached as though one is. Instead, we evaluate where each dog excels, where improvement may be needed, and whether a prospective mate offers qualities that can strengthen the next generation without sacrificing the traits we value in our existing line. 

We also look beyond the immediate litter. Pedigrees are studied across generations to better understand recurring traits, longevity, health, temperament, type, and the consistency - or inconsistency - behind the dogs we are considering. 

Our goal is not simply to produce an impressive individual puppy.

Our goal is to make each generation more thoughtful, predictable, and complete than the one before it.
